National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched during 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, in 37 universities involving 40000 students. NSS is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in educational institutions. It is being implemented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) ARE:
- To understand the community in which they work
- To understand themselves in relation to their community
- To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
- To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
- To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
- To gain skills in mobilizing community participation
- To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
- To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
- To practice national integration and social harmony.
MOTTO:
The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the student’s development & appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
NSS LOGO:
The logo for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The Red & Blue colors contained in the logo motivate the NSS Volunteers to be active & energetic for the nation-building social activities. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, The wheel thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.
NSS BADGE:
The NSS logo is embossed on the badge of NSS. The eight bars in the wheel of NSS logo represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
Activities



24.01.2025 - As part of the NSS initiatives, a drawing competition was conducted under the theme Viksit Bharat to inspire creativity and envision a developed India. The event encouraged students to express their ideas and aspirations for the nation's growth through art.



30.12.2024 - A Blood Donation Camp was organized in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore and the NCC unit to promote the spirit of service and contribute to saving lives.

26.12.2024 - A solemn candlelight tribute was organized to honor and remember the lives lost and affected by the tsunami.



18.12.2024 - In celebration of the Official Language Act Week, a rally was conducted to promote the use and pride of the Tamil language. Three staff members and 20 students participated in the rally, which proceeded from the Collector Office to the Old Bus Stand, Tirupur, raising awareness about the significance of Tamil as the official language.



11.12.2024 - A Consumer Awareness Competition was conducted to educate and engage students on the importance of consumer rights. A total of 40 students actively participated in drawing, essay writing, and poetry competitions, showcasing their creativity and understanding of consumer-related issues.




11.12.2024 - The birth anniversary of Mahakavi Bharathiyar was celebrated at the college with enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers and the presence of esteemed dignitaries.

11-12-2024 - NSS volunteers actively participated in Flag Day observance by collecting funds to support the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, demonstrating their respect and gratitude towards the armed forces.



16.10.2024 - In observance of World Food Day, the NSS unit organized a signature campaign to raise awareness about the importance of preventing food waste.


08.03.2024 - 100 NSS volunteers and 2 staff members are participated in cleaning camp at railway station.

07.03.2024 - 30 students are participated in Voter Awareness Rangoli kolam competition was organized by Nift-tea NSS (unit1 and unit 2) .






06.03.2024 - A Voter Awareness Camp was organized with the participation of 50 NSS volunteers and 2 staff members across the villages of Nullur, Manikapuram, and Kasipalayam. As part of the campaign, students and staff distributed "100% Voting" awareness notices to the public, encouraging active and informed participation in the democratic process.
